Story

Dust Runner Conquest is what happens when an E86 Z4 coupe gets judged by whoops, heat, and miles—not panel gaps. The recognizable Z4 roofline stays, but everything below the beltline is rethought as an Unlimited-style desert weapon: 180mm composite/tube arch extensions, a 210mm lift, and long-travel independent suspension built to keep the chassis calm at speed.

The front end trades street-car fragility for a tubular steel exoskeleton that carries lighting, recovery points, and impact structure. Sidepods stretch 650mm to package fuel and electrics while feeding dual radiators through tall vertical vents, and the rear gets a longer tail with a high-mounted 1750mm wing to stabilize the car when the dunes start trying to steer it.

Technical dossier

Fictional engineering concept

Platform

2004 BMW Z4 E86

Powertrain concept

Mid-mounted twin-turbo inline-6 layout emphasizing weight centralization and serviceability
Sidepod dual-radiator system with direct ducting for sustained high-ambient operation
Dry-sump lubrication and baffled fuel delivery for long-duration high-G whoops and landings
Desert-tuned boost and ignition strategy prioritizing torque, cooling headroom, and reliability

Aero package

1750mm rear wing on rugged stanchions, mounted ~900mm above the tail surface for clean airflow
Carbon slatted hood with ten 100mm-wide longitudinal extraction slots for heat management
Front fender vertical cooling vents (~280mm tall) ducted to side-mounted radiators
Flat, sacrificial underbody skids to manage airflow and protect hard points in rock strikes

Chassis & stance

Wheels & tires

Method Race 17x9.5 forged beadlock wheels in black
355/85R17 BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tires
Widened track: +210mm front / +240mm rear for stability and suspension clearance
Lift: +210mm ride height with desert-focused alignment for straight-line tracking

Fabrication notes

Tubular substructure ties bumper/exoskeleton, shock towers, and sidepod mounts into a continuous load path
Quick-service panels with riveted lips and captured hardware for rapid pit access
Reinforced inner arching and clearance planes designed around full bump/lock with 355s
Heat shielding and duct sealing around side radiators to prevent recirculation at low speed
Integrated jack points and skid mounting bosses built into the chassis reinforcement
