Desert Sovereign Expedition

1979 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II

Desert Sovereign Expedition takes the Silver Shadow II—arguably the most “hands off” British sedan of its era—and rebuilds it as a Baja endurance weapon without losing the long, formal roofline and upright presence that make it instantly recognizable. Riveted trapezoidal flares, satin charcoal armor panels, and a true 230mm of ground clearance turn the Shadow’s dignified silhouette into something that looks like it was born to take hits and keep moving.

Under the matte Sandstorm tan skin, the engineering reads like a desert pit notebook: long-travel double wishbones, serviceable rally hardware, and cooling that’s designed for heat soak and sustained speed rather than dyno glory. It’s equal parts sacrilege and respect—luxury heritage reinterpreted through the logic of dust, impacts, and finish-line reliability.

Aero Package

55mm hood scoop for intake/underhood heat extraction management
Integrated NACA ducts feeding twin sidepod radiators
Rear diffuser extending 220mm with seven trapezoidal vertical strakes
Roof-mounted dust fin to clean airflow and reduce cabin-roof turbulence

Chassis

This Shadow is spec’d for Baja-style pace—fast, broken terrain where stability matters more than peak speed and where cooling is a performance part. The stance and aero are tuned to keep it calm through high-speed chop, with the underbody and rear diffuser designed to manage airflow without becoming fragile.

Wheels & Tires

Method Race Wheels Rally 17-inch steel wheels (high-impact
field-serviceable)
Front: 285/75R17 BFGoodrich Krawler for steering bite and clearance
Rear: 315/75R17 BFGoodrich Krawler for traction and stability under load
Reinforced studs and open lug hardware for fast wheel changes

Powertrain

Reworked Rolls-Royce V8 with conservative twin-turbo setup tuned for sustained heat
High-capacity filtration and sealed intake routing for silt-heavy stages
Sidepod radiator system with ducted airflow and debris protection
Long-range fuel strategy with surge control for whoops and off-camber sections

Fabrication Notes

Widebody mounted to reinforced arch structures to survive tire contact and vibration
Skid-protected cooling lines routed high and inboard to avoid rock strikes
Modular armor panels with quick-access fasteners for between-stage servicing
Diffuser and rear valance braced to the chassis for durability over impacts
