Story

The 2005 Equinox was never meant to see a bivouac, which is exactly why it works. Dune Roamer Beast takes the soft-edged mid‑2000s crossover and re-architects it into a wide-track desert endurance weapon: 2250 mm of stance, long-travel suspension, and composite bodywork shaped around airflow, heat, and debris management—not styling trends.

Everything you see has a job. The carbon‑Kevlar hood with a raised snorkel feeds clean air above the dust plume, the fender louvers dump brake and bay heat, and the extended tail with a two‑element wing keeps the truck settled when the dunes turn into whoops at speed. It’s the kind of build that reads like a service manual and looks like a start-line threat.

Technical dossier

Fictional engineering concept

Platform

2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Powertrain concept

Race-prepped 5.0L twin‑turbo V8 targeting ~620 hp with emphasis on torque and heat resilience
Dry-sump oiling and sand-proofed cooling stack with dual intercoolers fed by high, clean airflow
6-speed sequential transmission with reinforced driveline for sustained high-load running
Heavy-duty differentials calibrated for sand traction and stability under long gearing

Aero package

Two-element roof wing on reinforced mounts tied into a tubular roof subframe
Front fender vertical louvers for brake/bay heat evacuation
Rear arch extraction vents to reduce turbulence and aid rear brake cooling
Skid-plate frame extensions front and rear to smooth impacts and protect approach/departure hardware

Chassis & stance

2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Wheels & tires

18x10.5 KMC XD Series XD135 beadlocks, matte sand bronze
315/70R18 BFGoodrich All‑Terrain T/A KO2 with reinforced sidewalls for low-pressure desert use
Desert baseline pressures around 18 psi with beadlocks to prevent debeading under load
Wide-track offset to match 2250 mm stance without excessive scrub radius compromise

Fabrication notes

Tubular reinforcement at roof/B-pillar area to carry wing loads without cracking the shell
Widebody and rock-guard interfaces designed for quick service access and panel replacement
Skid system tied into a strengthened subframe structure for real impact load paths
Wheelbase stretch via extended trailing-arm geometry to stabilize high-speed desert transitions
