Sierra Muscle Gasser

2016 GMC Sierra

A 2016 Sierra shouldn’t look like it’s queued for a Saturday-night bracket race—so we made one that does. Sierra Muscle Gasser takes the modern crew-cab silhouette and yanks it into the 1970s with a hard rake, big-and-little 15s, and a wide-track body that reads like a purpose-built strip truck, not a cosplay kit. The riveted scalloped front arches and tubular rear guards are functional cues on a pickup that’s now all about tire, stance, and launch.

Under the raised cowl hood, the concept leans on old-school simplicity with modern execution: a large-cube NA V8, long-tube headers, and a drivetrain built to survive repeated hits. The tailgate is flattened into a clean panel with round lamps and protector bars—less “worksite” and more “pits,” especially when the sunset backlight catches the smoke and the gloss-black metalwork.

Aero Package

Raised fiberglass cowl-induction hood for under-hood pressure management
Polished shaker scoop with exposed fasteners (period drag cue)
No rear spoiler/wing to keep the silhouette era-correct

Chassis

The widened stance is set to 2100mm up front and 2200mm at the rear, aligning the tire to the body instead of forcing the body to pretend. The front lift adds the classic gasser rake and clearance, while the slightly lowered rear keeps the truck planted when the slicks bite and the weight moves rearward.

Wheels & Tires

Front: 15x6 Weld Racing S71 steel wheels
Front tires: 25x8-15 skinnies for low rolling resistance and quick steering response
Rear: 15x15 Weld Racing wheels
Rear tires: 33x15-15 Mickey Thompson slicks for maximum footprint and sidewall compliance

Powertrain

7.0L naturally aspirated V8 targeting ~900 hp with a high-rpm, short-burst cam profile
Custom long-tube headers and side-exit exhaust for scavenging and heat management
Fuel system sized for repeated burnout/launch cycles with stable pressure under G-load
Drag-focused cooling strategy: high-flow radiator and oil control for staging heat soak

Fabrication Notes

Widebody mounted with serviceable riveted flanges for quick tire access and repair
Track-width increase supported by reinforced hubs/knuckles and corrected steering geometry
Rear tubs and bedside clearancing to center 33-inch slicks through full suspension travel
Tail panel conversion uses internal bracing to prevent oil-canning and vibration at speed
