Story

Hillclimb Vortex is what happens when a 2001 Jaguar X-Type stops pretending it’s only a quiet commuter and starts chasing split times. The shell stays recognizably X-Type, but everything around it is re-prioritized: 200mm carbon composite arches, hard-edge vortex work at the fender exits, and a hood bulge built to feed a top-mount intercooler with extractor slits that actually pull heat out on a long pull uphill.

The stance is deliberately functional—raised for real road camber and broken tarmac, not parking-lot drama—while the aero package is unapologetically big because hillclimb speeds are high and corners come fast. The rear gets a full-width diffuser, an aero hatch that replaces the trunk lid, and a dual-plane wing with fences to keep the car settled when the road drops away and the throttle stays pinned.

Platform

2001 Jaguar X-Type Sedan

Powertrain concept

Turbocharged V6 targeting ~480 hp with emphasis on midrange response
Top-mount intercooler packaging for short charge path and serviceability
Motorsport baffled sump and upgraded oil cooling for sustained uphill load
High-flow exhaust with thermal management and quick-change sections

Aero package

Front splitter with endplates and pressure-relief fender exit detailing
Full-width rear diffuser with straked tunnels and flat underfloor sections
Dual-plane rear wing with vortex fences and adjustable angle of attack
Edge-mounted vortex generators to stabilize flow at high yaw

Chassis & stance

2001 Jaguar X-Type Sedan

Wheels & tires

Volk Racing TE37SL forged magnesium
square setup for rotation
Toyo Proxes R888R for fast heat and consistent grip on short stages
Motorsport studs
open nuts
and high-temp valve hardware

Fabrication notes

Arches bonded and mechanically fastened; inner tubs clear full bump travel
Underfloor and diffuser mounted to reinforced pickup points
not thin sheetmetal
Aero hatch uses a rigid subframe and sealed perimeter to keep diffuser pressure stable
Cooling ducting built with removable panels for rapid between-run access
